• We, the bishops of Malta and Gozo, are deeply saddened by the violence being spread in various countries where there are wars and persecution towards Christians, particularly in the north of Iraq. It is with a heavy heart that we are following the plight of our fellow Christians who are being driven out of their homes with nothing to take with them.

Moved by the appeal for prayer by HH Pope Francis, for the gift of reconciliation in Iraq – because peace prevails over violence – we invite all Maltese Christians to pray to our Lord God and our mother Mary, Queen of Peace, that peace and love may reign among all peoples and all creeds.

As a sign of solidarity towards the Christian communities currently suffering many hardships, we are also calling upon your generosity to help them with an offering, no matter how small. Anyone wishing to do so can make their donation through our parish priests, which in turn shall be given to the Christian communities in Iraq.

In all celebrations of Holy Mass, during the prayers of the faithful these prayers, or prayers with the same intention, shall be added:

    • Heavenly Father, you who have made us all your children, and brothers and sisters of your only son Jesus Christ, help the leaders of this world to choose the path of dialogue, justice and peace in their relations with each other. Lord hear us.
    • Lord Jesus, we pray for those who are suffering because of your name, that you may give them the strength and courage to stay strong in their faith and forgive those who persecute them. Lord hear us.
