• On the occasion of the official inauguration of the new Cathedral’s Maestro di Cappella, Maestro Hamish Dustagheer will be perfoming in an organ recital, at St John’s Co-Cathedral, Valletta, on Saturday, 17th June 2017.

    The inauguration ceremony begins at 6:00 p.m., with the celebration of Mass presided over by Archbishop Charles J. Scicluna. The repertoire for the concert which will be held after Mass, will consist of excerpts of classical music by composers Johann Sebastian Bach, Felix Mendelssohn, Gabriel Pierne and Julius Reubke.

    Born in 1992, prize-winning pianist and organist Hamish Dustagheer studied at the Royal College of Music in London. In 2016, Dustagheer completed postgraduate studies from the University of Oxford, where he read for an M.Phil in Music at New College. He was previously titular organist of Quarr Abbey, organist and choral director of Blackfriars and organist of Campion Hall, Oxford, England.

    The ‘Maestro di Cappella’ prepares and directs the music and the choir during liturgical celebrations at the Metropolitan Cathedral and at St John’s Co-Cathedral. He is also to promote liturgical music in the Archdiocese of Malta.
