World famous choir to perform in Malta for charity

  • The world famous Claire College Choir of the University of Cambridge will perform in Malta on the 12th July 2018, in honour of the 600th anniversary of the Carmelite presence in Malta and to raise funds for the restoration of the 16th century Oratory of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Valletta.

The choir, which previously gave a very successful tour of Malta in 2014, will be performing numerous pieces of music which reflect church music over the centuries. The program will be published soon.

Accompanying the Choir as a guest performer is Welsh Soprano Elin Manahan Thomas, who had started her career in the choir. She will be singing several pieces, including Handel’s ‘Eternal source of Life Divine’ which she had sung at the opening ceremony of the London Paralympics.

The Saint John Co-Cathedral Choir will be making a guest appearance at the concert.

One highlight of this charity concert is the performance of the winner of an international competition for a new ‘Flos Carmeli’ antiphon. This competition was commissioned by the Archconfraternity of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in honour of  Valletta being European City of Culture and of the Carmelite Anniversary. It has attracted entries from the UK and Malta.

Tickets can be booked via the Malta International Arts Festival Website or via the website
