  • On Monday 17th June 2019,  53 participants from 27 European countries and the Holy See arrived in Malta for the annual meeting of media officials and spokespersons of the Bishops’ Conferences (CCEE). The conference is hosted by the Church in Malta and is being held at the Archbishop’s Curia in Floriana.

    Auxiliary Bishop of Malta Joseph Galea-Curmi offered a welcoming remark followed by CCEE General Secretary Fr Martin Michalicek. Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, CCEE President, gave an introductory speech about the challenges and opportunities offered by new media.

    Prof. Santiago De la Cierva, from the  Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome, was the keynote speaker of the day. He spoke about how to deal with and communicate a crisis situation and the role of the press officer serving the Catholic Church.

    The first day of the conference ended with a brief tour of Valletta and Mass at St John’s Co-Cathedral, presided over by Cardinal Bagnasco. The conference ends on Wednesday 19th June.
