Pope Francis to meet with 6,000 young people to discuss how to achieve world peace

On 19th April 2024, Pope Francis will welcome 6,000 participants of the Schools of Peace, an initiative of the Community of Sant’Egidio that brings together children, young people and teachers from different parts of Italy.

The goal of the meeting is to build a commitment for peace among the younger generations. At a time when war abounds, the Schools of Peace propose “to look at the future without fear and to transform it.”

Amended Paola parish cafeteria application rules out cooking on premises

The Paola Parish of Christ the King will be amending its planning application for a small cafeteria on the church roof to specify that no food can be cooked on the premises.

Following discussions between the Archdiocese of Malta and parish priest Fr Marc André Camilleri, it was agreed that instead of a 4D licence, the parish would seek a 4C licence which does not permit cooking to take place on the premises. 

A spokesperson for the Archdiocese said: “There was never any intention to operate a restaurant on the roof of the parish church but we agreed it would be prudent for the parish to amend its application to eliminate further conjecture, speculation and misconceptions… Read more »

‘Caravaggio Centre’ launched at the St John’s Co-Cathedral

The Caravaggio Centre has been established at the St John’s Co-Cathedral, to provide visitors with an interactive experience through which they can learn about the artist at the very home of two of his masterpieces.

The project was co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund, and overseen by the St John’s Co-Cathedral Foundation established by the government and the Archdiocese of Malta to act as the church’s custodian… Read more »

Today’s European Parliament plenary vote on the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum marks the end of lengthy negotiations to reform the European rules on asylum. Caritas Europa is concerned about its potential negative impact on thousands of people’s lives, as the new rules clearly limit access to protection for those in need.

Ordination of four new deacons

This Saturday, 13th April 2024, Archbishop Charles Scicluna will ordain four new deacons. The four deacons are seminarian Matthew Sammut from the Parish of the Resurrection of Christ in Pembroke; Johan Bugeja, Salesian of Don Bosco; and two students from the Institute for World Evangelisation – ICPE Mission: Tian Ci Shawn Dominic Wong from Singapore and Jerome Savioraj Barnabas from India.
